PROJECT MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE

The Project Management Institute (PMI) is a North American organization recognized as the largest project management association in the world, with certified members in over 185 countries. The foundation of PMI’s project management framework is the PMBOK Guide. PMI certification can also be obtained in the Czech Republic; however, proficiency in English is required to pass the exams. PMI offers several types of certifications. The most popular include PMP (Project Management Professional) — designed for experienced project managers — and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), which is intended for those already working in or planning to enter the field of project management but who do not yet have sufficient experience to qualify for the PMP exam. Candidates can prepare for these certification exams either independently or through training courses. However, experience shows that the final exams are quite challenging, and the success rate is relatively low for those who rely solely on self-study. Several institutions in the Czech Republic offer commercial training courses. Within the Projektový Underground , these courses have also been provided free of charge. The final exams must be registered for directly through PMI. Since autumn 2017, PMI certifications worldwide have been based on the updated PMBOK Guide – 6th Edition.[4][11]

The PgMP (Program Management Professional) represents the highest level of PMI certification. This credential evaluates not only technical knowledge but also the personality traits essential for effective program and project management. Although the exam is computer-based and composed primarily of multiple-choice questions, it also includes additional validation processes. There is currently no fully proven commercial training program for this certification, and only a few hundred professionals worldwide have achieved it. Within the Projektový Underground , group preparation workshops have been held, resulting in three PgMP-certified professionals in the Czech Republic — positioning the country as a leader among comparable European nations.

PMI also offers certifications based on the standard PMBOK framework, each focused on specific areas of expertise. These include: Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP), Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA), Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) and Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP).

what
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: DEFINITION

Project management is a process in which individuals or organizations use their resources to realize a specific project. A project is an activity with a defined goal, beginning, and end. The resources available for its execution are limited, and because a project exists outside the scope of regular day-to-day operations, its outcome is not always guaranteed.

A project is an activity that may be either tangible or intangible — for example, constructing a building, launching a new website, organizing a school reunion, or renovating a bathroom. All of these represent projects of varying scope and complexity.A project management methodology defines how a project is planned, organized, and managed. Such a methodology may be adopted from established frameworks such as PRINCE2 or the PMBOK® Guide, or it may be developed internally and tailored to specific organizational needs.

However, intuitive management approaches cannot be considered true methodologies, as they are inherently inconsistent . They are non-repeatable, undefined, and practically non-transferable.

PROJECT EVALUATION

When it comes to measuring a project’s success, the most important indicator is whether it was completed successfully. Other key criteria include the quality of the outcome, as well as the time and resources invested.

A solid understanding of project management methodology can strengthen your confidence when tackling larger projects and give you a competitive advantage.
